52 Weeks of Conscious Contact Hazelden, 2003
This is another meditation book, but it’s vastly different from my other meditation books,” Beattie explains. “It’s more a practice book than a meditation book.”
Each week, Beattie explores one simple value and how to put that value into practice. The topics include living one day at a time, gratitude, passion, trusting guidance, and like-it-or-not (which most people don’t) patience.
The first day of each week explores the value. Consecutive days of the week look at the value from different sides. How do we know when it’s time to apply that value, when it’s the solution to the problem we’re facing? What’s the challenge in practicing this value -- the hardest thing about practicing patience, or trusting that guidance will be there? One day is devoted to a personal inventory about an aspect of the value, one day to action steps, one day focuses on gratitude, and the last day of the week focuses on prayer.
“By the end of the week, the reader will be familiar with that value, what it means to them, and how to apply it in their lives, Beattie says. “There are so many circumstances that arise in our lives that we can’t do anything about. Consciously practicing these values is something we can do.”
“This little book is fast becoming one of my favorites,” Beattie adds. “I wrote it for people in recovery from anything, and for ordinary people who want to experience the gifts these values can bring. Just writing it, spending that much time with each value, has changed the way I live my life. I hope it does the same for my readers.”
